December 17, 2017 Sermon

December 17, 2017

A:       Come to the living waters and drink your fill!
C:        To God be the glory!

Welcome to the third Sunday of Advent, a season to prepare for the coming of Christ. A special welcome to any guests visiting with us today. We prayed you would come and hope you will allow us to further greet you after worship.

* The wrapped gifts and Christmas stockings for Haven’s eight children are due TODAY so we can deliver them to the Department of Social Services tomorrow. If you forgot your package, make arrangements with Pastor to get it here by tomorrow.  Way to go, Haven!  Just think of the joy on the faces of these children this Christmas. God’s work. Our hand.

*TODAY at 2 p.m. is Haven’s Game Time in the Gathering Room. Come for a game of Mexican Train Dominoes and good fellowship. Bring a snack to share. Beverages will be provided.

*TODAY there will also be a BLUE CHRITMAS service of Comfort and Hope at 5 p.m. If you or any one you know is having a difficult time this Christmas due to illness, loss or other hurtful circumstances, come to this quiet service for a safe place to rest, reflect and sit in God’s care. All are welcome.

*Haven’s Christmas Food Baskets will be packed for pick-up or delivery this Friday, December 22nd at ____ a.m. in the Gathering Room. Come lend a hand if you are able.

*Next Sunday we will be celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent at 9:30 am with a service of Advent Lessons, Carols and Communion. There will be no Sunday School next Sunday.  Later that same day we will celebrate Christmas Eve with a Family service at 6:30 pm and a traditional candlelight service at 10:30 pm. Bring small bells to the Christmas Eve services to ring when we sing the chorus of  “Angles We Have Heard on High”— it’s a tradition we are trying to re-establish.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*Pastor messed up last week and forgot to include the birthdays. Best wishes (and pastor’s humble apologies) to Joy Bergschneider, Kevin Pile, Kathy Amos, Lauren Huguenin, Michael Manspeaker and Pastor Fleming who celebrated birthdays last week.  Best wishes to Marge Cunningham, Bev Richards, Becky Plavcan, and Jensen Richards who have birthdays this week and to Amy and Mike Mason who have a wedding anniversary tomorrow.

A:        God’s word goes forth and will not return empty.

C:        To God be the glory!
A:        Incline your ear; listen so that you may live!
C:        To God be the glory!
A:        We prepare for worship as we listen to the Prelude.
