December 20, 2020 Sermon – Advent 4

Announcements (in person)

December 20, 2020

A: Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.
C: Let it be with me according to your word, Lord.                             (Based on Luke 1: 28-38)

*Welcome to worship at Haven Lutheran Church. It is a delight to worship our Lord together as we Deck the Halls with love this Fourth Sunday of Advent.

*All food for Haven’s Christmas food baskets was due today. We thank each and every person who purchased food, took phone calls OR sent in a donation. A special thanks to Linda Clark for coordinating this Hunger Team effort. We have designated shoppers to get any remaining items and volunteers to put the baskets together. On behalf of the Fountaindale students and their families who will receive these food baskets, many, many thanks. God’s Work. Our Hands. Amen!

* Chairpersons of Haven Teams — this is that nagging little voice in the back of your head — “Your annual reports are due no later than January 10th.”

*It’s time for CAR-oling Party today at 4:30 pm on Haven’s parking lot. Since windows will be closed, cars may park in any available space. Stay safely in your car, tune in your radio and sing carols with gusto. Thanks to Steve Pastena, choir members, Doug Wright and any others who had a hand in making this wonderfully, crazy idea possible.

*We have OUR CHRISTMAS EVE LIVESTREAM worship bags ready for those who requested one. Some have opted to pick them up at today’s CAR-oling party or from the parsonage back porch. The others will be delivered. You will find a surprise in the bags. You will not only have bulletins and communion sets for Christmas Eve but also for Epiphany Sunday! What joy to be able to worship and commune together to celebrate Christmas and the Epiphany of our Lord.

* Pastor Alessandri will be away from December 25th to the 31st. If you are in need of pastoral care, please contact Pastor Hoda of St. John’s Lutheran Church. His phone number is in your bulletin. Please keep it in the event your need Pastor Hoda’s phone number.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*Most of the Haven folks who had COVID are recovering well. We still are a bit worried about Irene Giffin at Hagerstown Health Center. Please keep Irene and all people fighting or recovering from COVID in your prayers.

*Best wishes Sandy Powell, Jim Cannon, Becky Plavcan, and Jensen Richards who have birthdays this week.
Since we will be enjoying Christmas Lessons and Carols from the Synod next Sunday, let’s also send our congratulations to Jamie Cannon, Susan Strobl, Carol Shull, and Ken Myers who have birthdays the following week. And best wishes to Millie and Ned Strange who have a wedding anniversary on December 29.

                                                                 (after the announcements)

A:        Prepare the way of the Lord.            C:        Prepare our hearts for the Lord’s coming.
