December 6, 2020 Sermon – Second Sunday of Advent (pdf)

Announcements (in-person) ~ December 6, 2020

A: Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.
C:  Let it be with me according to your word, Lord. (Based on Luke 1: 28-38)

*Welcome to Haven Lutheran Church. It is a delight to worship our Lord together as we Deck the Halls with wonder this Second Sunday of Advent.

*We still have devotional booklet available for your Advent preparations in the church lobby. What might the Lord do among us while we are reading the same scripture and reflection each day?

*Exciting news! Our Hunger Team will lead us in providing Christmas food baskets for five of our Fountaindale families. There are tags for needed items in the narthex. AND There are “virtual tags” for needed items by calling one of our Hunger helpers — Pam O’Connor, Pat Pile or Kelly Bracken. All food should be brought in no later than December 20th. Another way to participate is to make a monetary donation toward the food baskets which can be mailed to church or dropped off at the parsonage back porch. Look in this week’s E-messages for more details. It feels a little bit more like a regular Haven Christmas.

* Calling all chairpersons of Haven Teams. It’s time to prepare an annual report for the year, due not later than January 10th. Despite this unusual year, there are still things to share, report and celebrate. There is more information in the bulletin and newsletter.

*Speaking of newsletters, the combined December-January newsletter is now available on-line and there are copies in the church narthex. You will want to read it and keep it on hand.

*Mark Sunday, December 20th, 4:30 pm on your calendars. Haven is having a CAR-oling Party on our parking lot. Everyone can stay safely in their cars, tune in their radios and sing carols together. We’ll end singing “Silent Night” with battery-powered votive candles on. Is it a crazy idea? Maybe. But what a fun way to defy COVID and celebrate a bit Christmas together.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*We are sad to report the death of Francis Gift, one of our homebound members who many of you may not know. Please keep his family in prayer. A funeral service will be held this Thursday at Fiery Funeral Home. The service will also be live-streamed.

*Please keep in prayer our folks recovering from COVID — June and Dick Hess, Eric, Stephanie, Piper and Tanner Meredith and Amy Mason and Irene Giffin who has also tested positive for COVID-19.

*Best wishes Stephen Kauffman, Joy Begschneider, Kevin Pile and Kathy Amos who have birthdays this week.

                                                                 (after the announcements)

A:        Prepare the way of the Lord.            C:        Prepare our hearts for the Lord’s coming.
