January 21, 2018 Sermon – Jesus clears the temple

January 21, 2018

A: Arise, shine; for your light has come,
C: And the glory of the LORD has risen upon us. (Isaiah 60: 1)
God’s light be with you this Epiphany season. A special welcome to guests visiting with us today. We pray you are blessed as we worship our amazing Lord together. We hope you will let us greet you further at coffee fellowship after worship.

*Today Pastor Regina Beard will be installed as pastor of three Lutheran churches who have formed the Washington County Cooperative Lutheran Ministry. Pastor Beard was Haven’s seminarian 2007-2008. The installation service will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Keedysville. All are welcome

*If you won’t be attending the installation today, you may want to come to Haven’s Game Time at 2 p.m. in the Gathering Room. All are invited to a friendly game of Mexican Train Dominoes. Bring a snack to share. Beverages and fun provided.

*Pastor Alessandri will be out of the office January 23rd to January 30th as she travels to Texas with her sister. Pastor Allen Reed will NOT be able to provide pastoral care in her absence as printed on page 11 of the bulletin. Please call the church office to get the name and phone number of the pastor who will be provide emergency pastoral care. After regular office hours, you can still get the pastor’s name and number by going to Pastor Alessandri’s voice mailbox. Apologies for the error.

*Uh-oh —- There’s no one signed up for next Sunday’s coffee fellowship and we’ll have a guest preacher! You can keep it simple and use up snacks already here in the kitchen. Could someone please sign up to do next Sunday’s coffee fellowship?!?

*Ooops, we again discovered that the congregation might not be familiar with the Hymn of Day. So that you can join in during worship, the choir would like to offer a preview. Please turn to hymn #645 in your hymnal. (PAUSE so they can find the page) Steve will play through the hymn once and the choir will sing the first verse. Sing along if you’d like.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*Best wishes to Abigail Andrews, Rebecca Mason, and Kathy Pensis who celebrate birthdays this week.
