2.jpgWITH SADNESS WE SHARE THE NEWS OF THE DEATH OF DOROTHY “DOT” ZINKAND.
At 100-years-old, Dorothy Zinkand was one of Haven’s oldest members. She died peacefully last Saturday. Some of you may not know her since she had moved away several years ago to be close to her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Dory who lived in Elkton. You would have liked her and added her to the list of elders you like to visit with on a Sunday morning. She was a delightful woman who had been an active member and volunteer here at Haven for many years.
I have a particular sweet memory of Dorothy and her sister, Wilma. I heard that Dorothy would pick up her sister every weekday to do to lunch. They had a specific restaurant they would go to each day of the week. I asked if I could have their schedule and join them some time. The next Sunday I had my own handwritten lunch locations. I was able to join them a few times since I knew where to find them at lunch time on any given weekday.  They always graciously welcomed an extra one at the table.
At her request, Dorothy’s memorial service will be held here at Haven on Thursday, November 3rd. Visitation 11 am – 12 noon. Memorial worship service at 12:00 noon. Inurnment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery with a fellowship luncheon afterwards.
Please keep Dorothy’s family in prayer, as they mourn her loss and give praise that she is in God’s glory.

4.jpgNEEDED:  THREE USHERS AND TWO GREETERS FOR THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BETH JOHNS ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31.
As people arrive for the 2 p.m. memorial service for Beth, we want to extend Haven hospitality. We would like a greeter at each door to welcome and direct the guests. Since we will be sharing holy communion, we need three ushers to help our guests make their way to communion. To volunteer, please contact the church office (301-733-5056; havenoffice@havenlc.org) or Pastor Alessandri (pastorlma@havenlc.org)

6.jpgALL SAINTS SUNDAY IS NOVEMBER 6, 2022 On this feast day as we celebrate the cloud of witnesses that surround and inspire us, we lift up the names of Haven members and friends who have died since All Saints Day 2021. We read their names and toll a bell at the beginning of worship. We put lit candles on the altar and include their names in our Eucharistic prayer to remind us that we are ever united with them in the Body of Christ. If a family member or dear friend has died between November 1, 2021 through today, please print their name on the attendance form in the bulletin OR contact the church office at 301-733-5056 or havenoffice@havenlc.org.

HAVEN’S LUNCH BUNCH IS BACK! After a long Covid break we will be getting together again for the first time in many, many months on Tuesday November 8th at 11:30am. We’ll meet at Hoffman’s All American Grill located at 18203 Mason Dixon Road in Hagerstown. Join us for a great time of food and fellowship. ALL are welcome, both male and female. We know it’s Election Day, so vote and treat yourself to lunch out. Please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex so we know how many to make a reservation for. Contact Susan Strobl if you have any questions.

TWELVE DOGS AND TWO CATS CAME TO HAVEN’S PET BLESSING AND PAINTING PARTY last Sunday. It was a fun time of fellowship. AND, there was a great deal of entertainment as we watched our dogs try to exercise their inner “paw”- casso to create their own masterpieces. We hope to have pictures available soon.
