Note from Pastor Alessandri March 18, 2020

Dear family and friends,

The peace of the Lord be with you.

I pray you are well. I pray you sense the Lord walking with you, with us and with our brothers and sisters throughout the nation and world. Our God does not sleep but is always awake, holding us in deep love and care. We can rely and rest in our Lord.

As you already know, the CDC has asked us to basically self-quarantine through March 30th.  They have asked us to do this to protect ourselves from getting ill, but just as importantly, to help our community and nation contain this virus, lessen the numbers who will be infected and thus avoid a massive number of infections that would overwhelm our health care system and lead to a greater number of deaths.

After much listening, reading, speaking with other pastors and, of course, prayer, I have come to believe that we would best serve our community by joining this national effort to minimize contact in an effort to stop the spread and dangers of the coronavirus. For that reason, we will not have worship services at the church on Sundays, March 22 and 29, or Wednesdays, March 18 and 25th. Sunday School, confirmation and Wednesday Bible study will likewise be cancelled.

With that decision made for now, we can turn our attention to being creative about keeping our community in touch, caring for our neighbors AND keeping ourselves grounded in faith and our Lord. Stay tune. We are contemplating everything from streaming a worship service of Word and Prayer on our website and Facebook page to sending out an abbreviated bulletin of worship to use at our homes on Sunday at 9:30 am so we can, in a sense, worship together. We will pass on links to other prayer and Bible Study opportunities being sponsored by our synod or the national church. Some of the technology needed for some ideas will be new to us. We will have to rely on our technologically-wise members to help us and be patient as we figure it out. When God calls us to service, God provides the ways and means to accomplish it.

In the meantime, please call members and neighbors to check on them and to be a voice of hope. Take out the church directory, start on page one and pray for each person and family by name, even those you may not know personally. We are not without powerful spiritual resources to help us through these troubled waters. We are not blind to the dangers and difficulties we are facing, but we remain a people of the resurrection, a people of hope. We trust that this is but a season and with God’s help and love, we will come through with an even greater sense of the power of God to bring light and new life where we can may only see darkness and deadends.

Stay well. Stay hope-filled. Call me if I can be of any help.

God’s peace IS with you, Pastor Linda M Alessandri
