November 15, 2020 Sermon (Seminarian Mia Hoover)

                                                            November 15, 2020

A: The LORD is my strength and my shield;
C:  in God my heart trusts.                                   (Psalm 28: 7a)

 *Welcome to on-line worship at Haven Lutheran Church. It is a blessing to worship our Lord together.

*Cub Scout Pack 103 and Scout Troop 103 will soon begin meeting at Haven in the area once called the Fellowship Hall where there are accordion doors. What wonderful support for some of our community children during this stressful time. Not even COVID could stop the Spirit of God from doing its life-giving best in and around us.

*Next Sunday, November 22, Haven will hold a simultaneous in-person and virtual congregational meeting to approve our 2021 Financial Plan for Ministry, also known as a budget. If you have not mailed in the postcard you received to let us know if you will attend the meeting in-person or on-line, PLEASE mail it as soon as possible. We want to be sure we have a quorum AND we want to be sure to assist anyone you might need some help learning how to work with ZOOM.  Keep Haven in prayer as we navigate new technology to approve a 2021 Financial Plan for Ministry, also called a “budget.”

*You have two more weeks to order poinsettias for Christmas. The cost is $8.75 per poinsettia. The deadline for orders is November 29th. Envelopes are available in the church narthex OR you can mail your order and check to the church OR you can drop an order and check in the offering box on the parsonage back porch. If you mail it in or drop it off, please be sure to include a note letting us know for whom they are in honor or in memory of.

*There is an error in your bulletin. The sermon today will be preached by Seminarian Mia Hoover. We apologize Mia, for the mistake.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*Please keep in prayer — June Hess, who tested positive for COVID and is currently at Meritus Hospital and John Britton, Jr who underwent a quadruple bypass surgery yesterday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Towson. Please keep June, John and their families in prayer.

*Pastor Alessandri wants to express a BIG “thank you” to Pastor Dave Kaplan for leading last week’s Washington County Conference meeting, last Sunday’s worship and Wednesday’s Bible Study for the last two weeks. We are so grateful for you, Pastor Dave!

*Best wishes Elaine Michael, Doug Wright and Kathryn Suchy who have birthdays this week.

                                                                 (after the announcements)

A:        We are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, here and in heaven.
C:        The Lord’s name be praised. Alleluia.
