November 29, 2020 Sermon – First Sunday of Advent (pdf)

Announcements ~ November 29, 2020

A: Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.
C:  Let it be with me according to your word, Lord.   (Based on Luke 1:28-38)

*Welcome to worship this first Sunday of Advent. It is a delight to worship our Lord together.

*TODAY we begin the season of Advent, a time to prepare ourselves to be fully open and receptive for the meaning and joy of Christmas. Our Advent theme is “Deck the Hall for the Coming of Christ” and each week we will look at a different way to deck the halls of our hearts and faith to prepare for Christmas.

*We do have Advent devotionals available to be a part of your Advent preparations. There are copies in baskets in the church lobby. What might the Lord do among all of us reading the same scripture and reflection each day?

*TODAY is the final day to order poinsettias for Christmas Eve. Please call or e-mail the church office TODAY to get in a last minute orders.

*This week our weekly Bible Study resumes on Wednesday at 10 am. This Thursday, December 3rd, the monthly Women’s Bible Study will meet at 10 a.m. The material for the women’s Bible study can be found in the narthex or by calling Elaine Michael. When attending one of the Bible studies, please use the entrance by the office of Big Brothers Big Sisters and follow the signs. We ask all who attend to follow guidelines about wearing masks and social distancing.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*Many thanks to all who participated in last Sunday’s simultaneous in-person and zoom congregational meeting. We had 60 members all together who unanimously passed our 2021 Financial Plan for Ministry. A big “thank you” to all those who helped with the technology needed for that meeting to happen. God helped us to make a way.

*Please keep in prayer — June and Dick Hess, Eric, Stephanie, Piper and Tanner Meredith and Amy Mason who are quarantined after testing positive for COVID; John Britton, Jr who is recovering from quadruple bypass surgery; and Nancy Newkirk, doing the hard word of physical therapy after her knee replacement surgery.

*Best wishes Ann Conrad, Owen Schupp, Joan Schupp, Jacyln Muse, JoAnn Shankle, Otelia Dumpé, Benjamin Lightfoot and Dorothy Zinkard who have birthdays this week.

                                                                 (after the announcements)

A:       Prepare the way of the Lord.         C:      Prepare our hearts for the Lord’s coming.
