Sermon March 6, 2022 (First Sunday of Lent)(pdf)

Announcements March 6, 2022
A:        Teach me your way, O Lord.     C:     that I may walk in your truth.

*Whoever you are…Where ever you are…you are welcomed to worship this morning at Haven Lutheran Church.

*This week we begin our midweek Lenten services at 7 pm on Wednesday, in person and on-line. During the midweek services, we will consider the attributes of our Lord. This week we consider God’s Faithfulness. Copies of Holden Evening Prayer are available in the narthex or parsonage back porch if you will participate on-line.

* Pastor Alessandri begins the Return of the Prodigal Son Lenten Book and Bible study today in the Adult Sunday School. The Wednesday and Thursday ZOOM sessions will also begin this week. Books are still available. Feel free to come to a session to check it out!

* Our congregation is again providing bag lunches for our sisters and brothers at Potomac Towers on Thursday, March 31. This month’s lunches will include chicken salad wraps donated by Free Range Cafe and dessert bags of truffles, offered at a discounted price, from Brooke’s House Coffee and Chocolate.  We ask you to please sign the “Thank You!” cards available in the narthex to express our deep appreciation for their generous support of this ministry.

* Today in your bulletin you will find information about donating to the ELCA Disaster Relief effort to help the people of the Ukraine and those who are providing refuge. There is currently a matching grant so donations will be doubled.

*At 2:30 pm today these will be a prayer vigil for the Ukraine in the Hagerstown Public Square. It is sponsored by the Hagerstown Area Religious Council and Hagerstown’s synagogue.

*Easter flower orders are due TODAY Sunday, March 6th. Order envelopes are in the narthex.  You can also get in an order today by by sending an email to the church office or by leaving a message in the church office voice mail.

*Next Sunday begins Daylight Savings Time. Remember to turn your clocks forward one hour Saturday night so you can get to church on time!

*The March newsletter is available in the narthex, the parsonage back porch and on-line.

This week’s concerns and joys:

*We want to thank everyone who participated in last week’s Annual Meeting. Business was completed and another year of ministry at Haven was celebrated! We extend a special thanks to Scott Rhodes for managing ZOOM so that members could participate on-line.

*News from Haven’s Re-Opening Team: FIRST —Like the Washington County public schools and Maryland government buildings who are following the latest CDC mask guidelines, Haven is also a mask optional zone. However, please respect the choices of one another. SECOND—There WILL be coffee and tea available in the parlor after worship today. Yes, we will be resuming regular coffee fellowship soon! Next week look for a sign-up sheet to host this much-missed  refreshment and fellowship time.

* Best wishes to Jennifer Yaraghi, Candace Reynolds and Judy Hoffman who have birthdays this week.

(after the announcements)
